Arema's Lack of Inventiveness Costs

For the second consecutive home game Arema Malang fired blanks at home. Last week they were defeated by Pelita Jaya. Today they went one better but a 0-0 left the fans and players unhappy and questions must be asked about their tactics.

PSIS had a torrid time last time out as they were roundly thrashed 4-0 by Persik but today they appeared to have learnt their lesson as they comfortably handled a one dimensional Arema content to pump aimless long ball after aimless long ball forward.

Arema had their captain, Emile Mbamba sent off second half for a foul probably more frustration than intent, but they still should have had enough on the pitch to have beaten this young PSIS team.

In Esiah Benson they have one of the best midfield players in the league but instead they chose to ignore him by going route one that would have had Charles Hughes purring like a kitten with extra milk.

PSIS know they are not the finished article. For Arema these last two results should be a wake up call. Going long might work against the likes of Persitara and Persita but it ain't the way to win trophies. And judging by the spaces on the terraces the fans are none too happy either.
