Who Will Blink?
Tomorrow sees Indonesian football enter a(nother) new era with the much heralded Super League. But will the 18 clubs who reached the holy land finish the season?
Now I guess it's too late to replace any late withdrawals but this is Indonesia and anything can happen.
PSMS were threatened with the boot but, like a cat, they seem to have endless lives and keep hanging on in there.
Persitara have less money than I do. Investors have come and gone, bemused by the goings on at a club who still, even at this late stage, have no clear idea of their home stadium.
Their first two home games are scheduled for Soreang, about four hours from Jakarta, and beyond that there is no plan. Instead they sit and wait for local government funding that ain't gonna happen.
Persita are better off but marginally. They host Arema tomorrow knowing that they must pay for the floodlights at Jalak Harupat Stadium but they receive no income from ticket sales.
The league are reluctant to cut teams but they maybe faced with an unpalatable truth if clubs can find no money.
Better to cut teams now than have them drop out midway through the season.
