IN a thrilling tie in Kuching, the Red Giants needed a last-gasp goal from Indonesian flanker Elie Aiboy to chalk up a narrow 3-2 win in the Malaysia Cup Group A clash on a night UPB-MyTeam confirmed their ticket to the quarterfinals from Group C.

Frank Seator had opened the scoring in the 15th minute, followed by Safee Sali’s fourth goal of the campaign before the break but Joseph Kallang Tie quickly replied also just before the interval as the two sides trooped back into the dressing room with the score at 2-1 to the visitors.

Sarawak levelled the score through Piousdinho in the 54th minute but Elie broke the home team’s hearts with virtually the last touch of the game, bringing relief to Dollah Salleh’s men.

Other matches in Group A saw Terengganu beat Negeri Sembilan 2-0 thanks to goals from Che Hishamuddin Hassan (50th) and Abdul Manaf Mamat (70th) while leaders Kelantan retained their position on top of the group with a 1-1 draw away in Malacca after midfielder Enock Bentil’s 69th minute strike cancelled Kofi Estiba Shaw’s 48th opener.

With Negeri Sembilan suffering a defeat, Kelantan top the group with 14 points, one point ahead of Wan Jamak Hassan's men while Terengganu and Selangor share the third spot with 10 points apiece. In the only Group B match of the night, Kuala Lumpur earned a hard-fought away win thanks to a double from striker Young Hwang Young (58th and 72nd) after Sabah drew first blood through Zainizam Marjan in the 57th minute.

In Group C, UPB-MyTeam’s rich vein of form continued with a narrow win over Perlis thanks to Sasa Branezac’s solitary goal, his sixth in the campaign.

Johor thrashed Armed Forces 6-1, thanks to Otelo Ocampos’ four goal-blitz while Perak beat Pahang 2-0 through goals from Carlos Caceres and Razali Umar Kandasamy.
