Schools football

While the Copa and Liga are winding down, both will be over by the end of this month, kids from local schools, well posh ones anyway, will be battling it out for the Coca Cola Cup.

The tournament, which covers an array of age groups in schools from around Jakarta starts Saturday and sees the sawn off savages giving it their best on Saturday mornings on muddy playing fields.

I went to a couple of games last season and one thing noticeable was the lack of parents standing pitchside cheering on their offspring. Dunno if that's a good thing or bad.

One of the problems in England people usually cite when complaining about the state of the game is the presence of wanna be Wengers and Fergies bawling out nonsense instructions like 'welly the bloody thing' or 'break his bloody leg'.

At the same time surely it cannot hurt to take an interest in what the boy is doing and stay away from the bloody mall?

Then again playing football with your mates, perhaps the last person you want there is your old man chewing gum and berating the ref...oh Dad!

More about the league can be found at the website.
