Darmawan v Dollo
The Indonesian FA, bless them, are today considering who to replace Ivan Kolev as the national team coach. The two leading candidates are Rahmad Darmawan of Sriwijaya and Benny Dollo of Persita.
In case the FA aren't aware Darmawan is kind of busy at this particular moment in time. He is currently preparing his team for the Thursday Copa semi final against Pelita Jaya and next week there is the small matter of the Liga Play Offs.
Both coaches are experienced and successful. Darmawan has won the Liga, 2005 with Persipura while Dollo has until recently had his own personal monopoly on the Copa, winning it twice with Arema.
Benny Dollo's Persita team this season have been a fiery bunch and certainly the national team needs to develop some spine if they are to compete at a higher level but there are times when you get the impression watching them that their primary objective is to stop their opponents playing rather than expressing themselves.
Darmawan keeps a low profile, content to let his team do the talking on the pitch. Despite their position at the top of the Western Division during the Liga Sriwijaya were not shown too much on TV, the media prefering to concentrate on clubs in and around Jakarta.
One name that has not been mentioned is that of Daniel Roekito who has done a splendid job getting Persik playing some of the best football in the League and of course winning the Liga in 2006.
