Selangor v Singapore

A South East Asian tradition

It maybe hard to believe today but once upon a time the Malaysia Cup was the premier tournamnet in the region. Over the years since it's inception two teams came to dominate; Selangor and Singapore.

Singapore went their own way more than 10 years ago and the balance shifted north in the Malaysian football scene as Perlis, Kedah and Perak became the new big boys.

In an effort to rekindle the rivalry between the 2 giants Singapore v Selangor has been revived as an annual fixture under the banner of Sultan of Selangor Cup and the 6th edition will be held tomorrow at Shah Alam Stadium in Selangor. Both teams will field representative sides.

Part of football's mystique is tradition and it's good two see the FAS and FAM recognise this in this fixture.
